CHATEAU CLOS L'EGLISE
One of the oldest Châteaux in Pomerol, dating back to the 1800s when the farmhouse was built that is still in use today. At the time it was part of a much larger estate that was eventually split in half, the other eventually becoming L’Eglise Clinet.
The property was modernized in 1975, with the next step in 1997 when it was brought for 12 million Euros (a record at the time for Pomerol) by Sylvaine Garcin Cathiard, sister of Daniel Cathiard who owns Château Smith Haut Lafitte.
The iron rich clay and gravel soils are located on a sloping hill planted in 70% Merlot and 30% Cabernet Franc. An interesting fact is that they use up to 12 different coopers to age the wine. An opulent Pomerol that ages particularly well.
